My first official attempt with oil painting (in process)

I’m learning that I prefer acrylic over oil painting. Oils take too long to dry! This has become a “back burner” painting… I’ll keep you posted!

This is another painting commissioned by my husband… he also titled it.

This painting was intended to be a draft of one that was going to be on black velvet. Hubby decided he liked the draft and since it’s going to be hanging on his sail boat, having the painting not on cloth probably makes more sense.

UPDATE: I’m pretty pleased of the finished painting, which proudly hangs in S/V Pointless.

Pets Playing Poker [in process]

I think I’m almost done with this painting! My husband is planning on building a custom frame to tribute our pets… I can’t wait!

Here is the finished painting… after Scupper passed away (puppy standing at the table without a hand), I left the painting “as is”.

Our Pets Playing Poker [In Progress]

2013-02-09_14-57-38_130

This painting is a draft of a much larger painting which will end up being on black velvet. The pets in this painting are (starting from left to right around the table) Rufus, a Golden Retriever; Louise, a Himalayan; Orson, a Pug; Scupper, a Flat Coated Retriever; Rascal, the white rat; Thelma, a white cat and Bagheera the black cat.

The poodle in the background painting is not one of our pets. I’m not sure if she’ll make it to the final…although it’s tempting with her “paint me like one of your french poodles” pose after Rose in the movie Titanic.

Scupper will not be sitting at the table in the final painting as all of our other pets in this photo have passed on and our 10 month old Scupper is happily still with us.  I might have him in the lower left corner staring up as a younger, smaller pup…I’m still undecided.

I’m also leaning towards swapping out the red hanging lamp for something more colorful – maybe a Tiffany styled lamp?  Who knows!

I’ll be sure to post my final painting here when I’m done!

UPDATE: Here’s the finished painting on black velvet.
